In 2014, WRI Indonesia was legally established in Indonesia under the name of Yayasan Institut Sumber Daya Dunia. Today, more than 30 individuals at the institute work on four areas that present opportunities for sustainable growth in Indonesia: forest, energy, climate, and cities. Enhanced commitment from political leaders and staff on sustainable development in Indonesia has fueled the spirit and growth of WRI Indonesia, making a move to the new office necessary at its third year.

We organized an office warming in our humble office in June 2016, bringing together our friends from government agencies, CSOs, private sectors, universities and research institutes.

During the event, we discussed with the guests on how research, as well as data and information, are critical to achieving sustainable development in Indonesia. Through Global Forest Watch, for instance, we can monitor the status of our forests landscape, including near real-time alerts showing a suspected location of recent tree cover loss and fire hotspots, which can then inform and empower people to better manage and conserve forests landscape. We also presented our research on renewable energy and a Sustainable Energy One Map platform that contains data and analyses of clean, new and renewable energy development.

WRI Indonesia director Dr. Nirarta Samadhi presented WRI Indonesia country strategy 2016-2021

“The office has experienced remarkable growth in the past three years, and I’m happy and honored to have worked alongside such a dedicated and enthusiastic team. We’ll keep upholding our independent and rigorous research to continue working towards a greener development pathway in Indonesia,” said Nirarta ‘Koni Samadhi’, WRI Indonesia director."
