Wahana Riset Indonesia (Science Laboratory)
Wahana Riset Indonesia is an initiative to nurture a battalion of young researchers to generate high-quality knowledge products, which will support evidence-based policy making in sustainable development.
One of the WRI Indonesia’s visions is to become the go-to applied research institution for sustainable development issues, supporting government programs implementation and turning it into learning processes. Thus, WRI Indonesia promotes evidence-based, science-based policy making as well as data-driven decision making as the right path for sustainable development delivery in Indonesia.
As the country’s commitment to sustainable development steadily grows, WRI Indonesia seeks to catalyze the realization of the commitment through research in less explored but strategic areas. However, some factors - such as, the lack of research funding, the lack of research capacity building at varsity level, and limited opportunities for talented graduate to conduct research – inhibit the progress of research in Indonesia.
Departing from this situation, WRI Indonesia initiates Wahana Riset Indonesia, which gathers a battalion of young researchers to conduct research in sectors of forestry, human well-being, and renewable energy for one year.
As a national research organization in sustainable development issues, this opportunity is also a concrete contribution of WRI Indonesia to increase the capacity of young people in conducting academic research. WRI Indonesia also utilizes this initiative to increase and accelerate the generation of knowledge products from our existing activities in various regions.
After receiving more than 500 applications and a thorough process of reviewing essays/ letters of intent, WRI Indonesia has selected 19 talented Young Researchers, whom hopefully will generate reliable and useful research products for policy makers.
