Semarang

Why

Semarang as the capital of Central Java province has a unique physical characteristic. While some parts of the city are located at coastal areas which to larger extent are prone to tidal flooding, the southern part of the city is largely hilly and prone to landslides. Community in both areas are exposed to disaster risks. Therefore, the city government must formulate the adaptation actions through policies and programs that integrate the needs of community.

How

WRI Indonesia assesses the city vulnerability level, community vulnerability level, and individual capacity to analyze preparedness behaviors, risk perception, and the strength of neighborhood relationships within community. The study also proposes programs that the city government has to take to enhance the community’s resilience.
