Sonny Mumbunan
Lead Environmental Economist (Senior Research Associate)
Sonny Mumbunan is the Lead Environmental Economist and research associate at World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia. He coordinates the country work for the New Climate Economics.
Prior to joining WRI, he has deep exposure to policy process in Indonesia having served as policy advisor with the President’s Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (UKP4) and the Executive Office of the President (KSP) on sustainable development, green econonmy, and development data. In this capacity, he was a negotiator for Indonesia for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and led the preparation of the blueprint for Indonesia One Data and the formulation of its regulation. He has also worked as consultant to UNDP, UNESCO, UNIDO, and the World Bank in areas of forest conservation, industrial pollution, and development data governance.
Sonny is a researcher at the Research Center for Climate Change at the University of Indonesia. He holds a PhD in economics from University of Leipzig, Germany, based on his work at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research, Germany.
