AFi assists companies and various stakeholders in accomplishing ethical supply chains by providing the Accountability Framework as a consensus-based practical guide. Works as a coalition of over 20 environmental and social organisations worldwide, AFi fosters adoption of these best practices in commodity production and trade.

Global and tropical regions, including Southeast Asia

While sustain livelihoods of millions, agriculture and forestry impact deforestation, biodiversity, and climate change, as well as associated with human rights violations of Indigenous People, local communities, and workers. Responsible management can balance resource extraction and the preservation of ecosystems and protection of human rights by applying the Accountability Framework.

To enhance the global implementation of the Accountability Framework, AFi strategically promotes the Framework in key tropical regions including Southeast Asia with a primary focus in Indonesia and Malaysia. The regional coalition of AFi actively spearheads the implementation efforts in Southeast Asia.

In addition to promoting the implementation of the Accountability Framework to guide companies and other stakeholders toward clear and consistent global norms, the AFi Southeast Asia Coalition plays a role in collaborating with regional stakeholders to achieve these standards, considering local contexts, practices, and on-the-ground realities.

Launched by the AFi in 2019, the Accountability Framework incorporates 12 Core Principles, Definitions, and Operational Guidance.  It acts as a practical guide for addressing deforestation, conversion, and human rights violations in agriculture and forestry sectors.

WRI Indonesia has been serving as the AFi Southeast Asia Secretariat, playing a crucial role in coordinating AFi coalition members in Southeast Asia. The coalition collaborates to enhance the capacity of supply chain actors, promote the adoption of the Accountability Framework, align with key peer initiatives, and strengthen communication and engagement with stakeholders.

Globally, the AFi Backbone Team which consists of Rainforest Alliance and Meridian Institute functions as the AFi global secretariat. Meanwhile, the AFi Coalition members in Southeast Asia are part of the AFi Coalition globally, consisting of CDP Asia, Global Canopy, LTKL, The Nature Conservancy Indonesia, Preferred by Nature, Proforest Southeast Asia, Rainforest Alliance Indonesia, World Resources Institute Indoneisa, WWF Singapore, WWF Malaysia, and WWF Indonesia.

To aim the collective goal of protecting environment and human rights, the Coalition in Southeast Asia  collaborates with industry initiatives, peer initiatives, financial network, government, and service providers.
