Mercyta is a political economist who focuses on optimizing Indonesia’s public financing capacity to mobilize international public and private finances for tangible climate and nature outcomes. She currently leads WRI Indonesia's endowment fund for sustainability portfolio in West Papua, Indonesia, with the aim to develop an alternative financing mechanism to support the special autonomy province to fill its fiscal gaps and achieve intended sustainability objectives. 

Mercyta has extensive exposure to policy-making processes in Indonesia; she was a member of the expert team that drafted the academic background paper for a special autonomy regulation on endowment fund for sustainable development in West Papua Province. Mercyta was also part of the the incentives and benefits expert team member, assisting the Indonesia Oil Palm Farmers Union in establishing a district-level financing vehicle to help smallholder farmers in West Kalimantan implement zero deforestation principles throughout their supply chains. 

Mercyta received professional training in climate finance from Griffith University and The Australia National University with a short-course scholarship from the Australia Awards. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Political Economy from Universitas Gadjah Mada and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Politics from the University of Edinburgh, with a full-ride scholarship from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education.
