Jakarta, October 2, 2025 – The Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry/BKPM and WRI Indonesia co-hosted the Indonesia Green Mineral Investment Forum (IGMIF) 2025 at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry's office in Jakarta.

The government aims to increase green investment that can support the transformation of the mineral industry. Nickel downstreaming, for example, aims for Indonesia to become one of the top five global producers of electric vehicle batteries, with a capacity of 700 GWh per year. At the same time, PT. PLN (Persero) has also declared its readiness to support downstreaming based on green energy. Through PLN's RUPTL 2025-2034, infrastructure will be added in mineral-producing areas to strengthen supply. A Green Energy as a Service (GEaS) scheme has also been developed to increase the industry's interest in utilizing green energy.

As part of the series leading up to the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2025, this forum serves as an important momentum to reaffirm Indonesia's commitment to the mineral downstreaming agenda, clean energy transition, and the creation of a more inclusive and environmentally friendly investment climate. This agenda also aligns with the 2025–2029 Medium-Term National Development Plan (RPJMN), which targets investments of Rp13.032 trillion, including more than Rp700 trillion from the critical minerals sector.

In his opening speech, the Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry/Head of BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, highlighted the importance of mineral downstream processing for economic growth, as well as for Indonesia's leadership in the low-carbon global supply chain.

"Mineral downstreaming is not just about creating economic added value, but also about how Indonesia can take the lead in producing the low-carbon products the world needs. Through this forum, we want to demonstrate Indonesia's readiness as a prime destination for green investment and a strategic partner in building a sustainable global industry," said Todotua.

Deputy for Investment Promotion, Nurul Ichwan, emphasized that this forum opens real opportunities for international investors. “Global demand for green products is increasing, and Indonesia has great potential to supply the demand. This forum provides real opportunities for investors to connect with strategic projects in the green mineral sector, while also promoting innovation, efficiency, and cross-sector collaboration,” explained Nurul.

Industry stakeholders discussed critical issues, including responsible mining practices, downstream opportunities towards high-tech sectors, and the provision of clean energy to support low-carbon mineral supply chains. Indonesia is currently positioning minerals as a driver of sustainable growth, as exemplified by the publication of the National Nickel Industry Decarbonization Roadmap 2025-2045 by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, which adds $31 billion in investment potential to the nickel sector.
Nirarta Samadhi, Country Director of WRI Indonesia, stated, "Green investment can address the issues of green development by creating various benefits. For companies, green investment strengthens their social license to operate, reduces costs, and opens access to green financing. For the community and the country, green investment can create a more certain and attractive investment climate, thereby increasing competitiveness and ultimately strengthening economic resilience. For the global supply chain, it ensures a reliable supply of minerals and supports a just energy transition."

This forum brings together policymakers, global investors, industry players, clean technology providers, academics, and development partners to strengthen the green investment ecosystem in the mineral sector and reaffirm Indonesia's position as a key part of the sustainable global supply chain. Among the participants are Prof. Brian Yuliarto (Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology/Head of the Mineral Industry Agency), Prof. Evvy Kartini (National Battery Research Institute/NBRI), Jerome Baudelet (Eramet Indonesia), Tony Wenas (PT Freeport Indonesia), Wang Yaning (GEM Co Ltd), as well as representatives from the chambers of commerce of China, Europe, and the United States who shared insights on the transformation of the green mineral industry through cross-country collaboration and technological innovation.
