Accelerates Industrial Decarbonization through Kadin Net Zero Hub
This project enables industry-led science-based net zero in Indonesia
Aim
This project seeks to create a supportive ecosystem for industrial players, enabling them to collaborate and expand their efforts in decarbonization.
Where
Indonesia
Why
74.5% of Indonesia's emissions attributed from industrial activities, with a projected twofold increase by 2030 from the baseline. Large business groups play crucial roles in the country's economy through diverse business lines and extensive supply chains. Decarbonizing these entities is important, as it triggers a transformative impact on their supply chains, setting off a domino effect for emission reduction.
The primary challenge for companies to decarbonize lies in the theory-to-implementation gap towards achieving net zero. Therefore, we provide tools, training, and matchmaking session for companies. By providing substantial support in aligning their practices with scientific principles, these companies have bolstered their climate resilience. Also, for the supply chain companies, especially those in labour-intensive industries, they can proactively adapt sooner leading to enhanced in future job stability. Furthermore, this project facilitates mutual support between the government and participating entities to achieve national climate targets.
How
WRI Indonesia focuses on business transformation, developing the Indonesian Corporate Decarbonization Evaluator Tools (INCODE) which includes GHG Accounting Tools aligned with GHG Protocol and Decarbonization Evaluator Tools. We also conducted needs assessment, resulting in a report on corporate clean energy and sustainability demand. This report formed the basis for our policy recommendation to the Ministry of Industry.
A significant aspect of our efforts was the initiation of the Corporate Assistance Program (CAP), an intensive program providing technical support for companies to conduct Scope 1-3 emission baselining, commit, and set science-based net-zero targets. Within CAP, we have successfully encouraged 20 companies to commit to the Science-Based Targets (SBTi), with three have achieved a validated target.
Our ongoing efforts now include developing a Learning Management Platform that allows industries to access a wide range of resources anytime, with content that is continually expanding and evolving.
