Project Background

Compared to previous years, climate disasters have become more frequent nowadays. The impacts of climate change are more likely to affect people and nature. In response, countries must adapt to the current and potential future impacts of climate change. This project, therefore, aims to address the challenges of integrating climate adaptation vertically in large, decentralized countries, including Indonesia. It provides several measures that countries need to take to coordinate and improve knowledge into planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the vertical integration of climate adaptation across multilevel governance in large, decentralized countries.

Issue Background

Large, decentralised countries such as Indonesia, Brazil, and India face similar challenges when it comes to integrating climate adaptation concepts. This is particularly relevant to the issue of achieving seamless coordination between government agencies at all levels in all programme management cycles for climate adaptation. Without straightforward vertical integration, countries such as Indonesia, Brazil, and India may struggle to implement effective climate adaptation strategies. 
 

Project Activities

The project aims to enhance coordination and provide recommendations for improving the vertical integration of climate adaptation in Indonesia by utilizing a range of data collection methods. These recommendations will suggest ways to enhance the multilevel governance of climate adaptation actions. 

These include:

  • Developing a multilevel governance concept,
  • Improving the capacity of sub-national leaders to adapt to climate change,
  • Producing knowledge products to encourage relevant stakeholders to invest more in climate adaptation efforts.
