Hosiana Simamora is a Research Assistant at World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, where she focuses on building more sustainable food systems, particularly through efforts to reduce food loss and waste.

Her career started shortly after graduating, when she became one of the finalists in the GenZ for Sustainable Food System (GSFS) national essay competition in 2023, hosted by the Koalisi Sistem Pangan Lestari (FOLU Indonesia/KSPL). This experience led her to an internship at WRI Indonesia, which later evolved into a consultancy role and eventually a full-time position.

Hosiana earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, majoring in Environmental Health, from Universitas Sumatera Utara. She has been actively involved in field research, co-developing training materials, and facilitating programs aimed at building the capacity of stakeholders and grassroots communities. She also contributed to the development of national guidelines for measuring food loss and waste, adapted from the Global FLW Protocol, in collaboration with BAPPENAS, BAPANAS, and KSPL partners.

Through the Urban Futures project, Hosiana worked on behavioral interventions to reduce household food waste in Bandung. She also supported youth capacity development by mentoring young enumerators in field data collection and data entry processes.

Raised by a father who deeply cared for plants and the environment, Hosiana was introduced to sustainability values early in life. That influence continues to guide her work and passion for creating a more resilient, just, and sustainable food system.
