Satya Budi Utama is an Air Quality Project Manager at WRI Indonesia, leading the Clean Air Catalyst initiative—an international collaborative program implemented in Jakarta (Indonesia), Nairobi (Kenya), and Indore (India). The program focuses on improving urban air quality through research, air quality monitoring installations, and capacity building for local governments. Satya also manages the SMART Waste Indonesia project, which strengthens methane emissions monitoring systems in the waste sector. This project directly supports Indonesia’s national target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43.2% by 2030, including a 30% reduction in methane emissions under the Global Methane Pledge. Previously, Satya served as Senior Project Lead for the Sustainable Use of Peatland and Haze Mitigation in ASEAN (SUPA) project under the European Union Delegation to Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, and ASEAN. In this role, he provided programmatic leadership for developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating sustainable peatland management initiatives across eight Southeast Asian countries, working closely with partners, governments, and communities. With over 15 years of experience, Satya has extensive expertise in program management across disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and renewable energy. His career began as Disaster Management Program Manager at the French Red Cross (2007–2012), followed by three years as Program Coordinator for the Disaster Emergency Operations Center Project with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). He later broadened his portfolio in renewable energy as Deputy Program Manager at Yayasan Rumah Energi, promoting household biogas in seven provinces across Indonesia. Before joining WRI, Satya was Senior Manager of the Program Unit at CARE International Indonesia, overseeing portfolios on women’s empowerment, community resilience, and climate change adaptation. Outside of work, Satya enjoys reading, watching films, and outdoor activities with his family.
