Bali Province, an island in Indonesia, spans approximately 5,780 square kilometers and is home to over four million people. Denpasar, its capital city, is the second largest city in Eastern Indonesia, and has become a hub for other cities in the region. Known for its diverse landscapes, which range from beaches, volcanic landscapes, and rice terraces, Bali is a major global tourist destination. The region’s rich culture is deeply rooted in religion and tradition, which shapes its everyday social practices. Tourism has primarily shaped Bali’s economy, which draws millions of visitors annually, alongside contributions from agriculture and fishing. The sub-national government's commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2045 is part of a broader vision to balance economic development with environmental sustainability as well as preserving the local culture, engaging diverse international partners and local communities. This model of sustainability highlights Bali’s proactive role in the national and global environmental governance, making it a leading example in climate action.
