Briantama Asmara
Research and GIS Analyst
Briantama Asmara is a Research and GIS Analyst of WRI Indonesia. He actively supports and contributes to research, analysis, and stakeholder engagements in West Papua and Southwest Papua Provinces, notably issues on forestry, landscape ecology, and socio-cultural aspects of Tanah Papua in the aftermath of the new provinces.
Before joining WRI Indonesia, Brian was an analyst in a private multinational navigation technology services and public sectors before pursuing his master degree. His previous research mainly focuses on forestry, water resources management, political ecology, and environmental justice issues, notably safe water access for remote indigenous Papuans.
Brian holds a master's degree in Environmental Conservation, with a specialization in water resources management from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, United States with a Fulbright Scholarship and a bachelor's degree in Geography and Environmental Science from Universitas Gadjah Mada.
In his free time, Brian loves jogging, hiking, and exploring forests and rivers in the remote parts of Papua.
